How to Complete KYC Verification

Why KYC Is Required

KYC (Know Your Customer) verification is a legal requirement for any platform that facilitates the trading and investment of digital assets. IPX takes compliance seriously to protect both you and the integrity of the marketplace.

SEC Compliance

IPX tokenized IP assets may qualify as securities. Federal law requires us to verify the identity of every investor before they can participate in offerings.

Investor Protection

Identity verification prevents fraud, money laundering, and unauthorized account access, keeping your investments and funds secure.

AML Regulations

Anti-Money Laundering (AML) laws require platforms handling financial transactions to verify user identities and monitor for suspicious activity.

Platform Trust

KYC ensures every user on IPX is a real, verified individual. This creates a safer marketplace for creators, investors, and IP owners alike.

What Documents You Need

Before you begin, make sure you have the following ready. Having everything prepared will make the process much faster.

Government-Issued Photo ID

A clear, legible photo or scan of one of the following:

  • Passport (most universally accepted)
  • Driver's license (front and back)
  • National identity card (front and back)

Proof of Address

A document dated within the last 3 months showing your name and residential address:

  • Utility bill (electric, water, gas, internet)
  • Bank or credit card statement
  • Government correspondence or tax document

Selfie / Liveness Check

You'll need a device with a camera (phone or computer webcam) to complete a live selfie verification. This confirms you're the person shown on your ID.

Tip: Use your smartphone for the best camera quality. Make sure you're in a well-lit area and remove glasses or hats.

Step-by-Step Verification Process

Navigate to Verification Settings

From your dashboard, click on your profile icon in the top-right corner and select "Settings". Then navigate to the "Identity Verification" tab, or look for the KYC banner that appears on your dashboard if you haven't verified yet.

Select Your Country of Residence

Choose your country from the dropdown. This determines which document types are accepted and may affect which features are available to you based on regional regulations.

Note: IPX is currently available in the United States and select international markets. Some jurisdictions have restrictions on digital asset investments.

Upload Your Government-Issued ID

Select your ID type (passport, driver's license, or national ID card) and upload clear photos. For driver's licenses and national ID cards, you'll need both front and back.

  • Ensure all four corners of the document are visible
  • Text must be sharp and fully readable — avoid glare and shadows
  • The document must not be expired
  • Accepted formats: JPEG, PNG, or PDF (max 10 MB per file)

Upload Proof of Address

Upload a clear photo or scan of a document that shows your full name and current residential address. The document must be dated within the last 90 days.

  • Your full name on the document must match your ID
  • The issuing date must be clearly visible
  • Digital statements (PDF) from your bank or utility provider are accepted

Complete the Selfie / Liveness Check

Grant camera access when prompted. You'll be asked to position your face within the on-screen frame and follow simple instructions (such as turning your head slightly or blinking) to confirm you're a real person.

  • Face the camera directly with good, even lighting
  • Remove sunglasses, hats, and face coverings
  • Avoid backlighting (don't sit in front of a bright window)
  • Keep your face still and centered until the capture completes

Review and Submit

Before submitting, review all uploaded documents and your personal information for accuracy. Incorrect or mismatched information is the most common cause of verification delays.

Click "Submit for Review" when everything looks correct. You'll receive an email confirmation that your documents have been received and are under review.

Features KYC Unlocks

Once your identity is verified, you gain full access to the IPX platform. Here's what becomes available:

Invest in IP Tokens

Purchase tokenized shares of intellectual property assets — music royalties, film rights, patents, and more — directly through the IPX marketplace.

Create & Launch Projects

Tokenize your own intellectual property and list it on the IPX marketplace. KYC is required for all project creators to maintain platform integrity.

Withdraw Funds

Transfer funds from your IPX wallet to your linked bank account or external crypto wallet. Withdrawals require verified identity for regulatory compliance.

Higher Transaction Limits

Verified users enjoy higher daily and monthly transaction limits for both deposits and investments, enabling larger portfolio positions.

Typical Processing Time

Most verifications are completed within 1–2 business days. During peak periods or if additional review is needed, it may take up to 5 business days.

Heads up: You can still browse the marketplace and explore projects while your verification is pending. You just won't be able to invest or withdraw until it's approved.

Troubleshooting

Document Rejected

Problem: Your uploaded document was rejected during the review process.

Solution:

Common reasons for document rejection and how to fix them:

  • Image is blurry or low resolution — retake the photo in good lighting
  • Document is expired — use a current, unexpired ID
  • Parts of the document are cut off — ensure all four corners are visible
  • Glare obscures text — photograph on a flat, dark surface without flash
  • File size too large — compress the image or use a lower resolution setting

You can re-upload documents directly from the verification page in Settings.

Selfie Not Matching ID

Problem: The liveness check fails or the system says your selfie doesn't match your ID photo.

Solution:

Try the following:

  • Remove glasses, hats, scarves, or any face covering
  • Ensure even, front-facing lighting (no harsh shadows or backlighting)
  • If your appearance has changed significantly since the ID was issued, use a more recent ID
  • Make sure only your face is in the frame — no other people visible
  • Use your phone's front camera instead of a laptop webcam for higher quality

Verification Taking Longer Than Expected

Problem: It's been more than 2 business days and your status still shows 'Under Review'.

Solution:

Delays can happen during high-volume periods. Here's what to do:

  • Check your email (including spam) for any messages requesting additional information
  • Log in and check the verification status page for any action items
  • Wait up to 5 business days before escalating — complex cases may need manual review
  • If it's been more than 5 business days, contact support at support@ipx.exchange with your registered email address

International IDs Not Accepted

Problem: Your country or document type isn't available in the dropdown.

Solution:

IPX is expanding international support over time. In the meantime:

  • Passports are accepted from most countries — try using your passport instead
  • Check our supported countries list at ipx.exchange/supported-regions
  • If your country isn't listed, join the waitlist — you'll be notified when support is added
  • Contact support for special circumstances or alternative verification options
